Steel Industries Inc. located in Redford, MI is currently seeking an energetic, enthusiastic individual to fill the role of Entry Level Estimator for our Aerospace and Defense manufacturing programs. This entry level position is a customer service oriented position that will work in tandem with sales, production, and quality teams members to ensure timely and accurate price and delivery estimates of Open-Die Forgings and Seamless Rolled Ring components for the Aircraft, Rocket and Defense industries.
This is an excellent opportunity for a military veteran, or a Pre-Engineering or business student who is seeking a full time day position while working through school. Candidates for this position must be an organized, detail-oriented individual of high integrity. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the desire to learn on the job in a high mix, time critical manufacturing environment.
Requirements
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Produce price and delivery estimates to sales staff, based on customer request in a low-volume, high mix "job shop" environment.
- Update and review estimated delivery schedules with milestones for customers.
- Assist Inside Sales staff in receiving customer calls.
- Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills; MS Office Applications, filing systems, data management.
- Strong desire to learn in a heavy manufacturing environment.
- Experience in business-to-business customer service a plus.
- Manufacturing, planning, scheduling, and/or logistics background a plus.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- College degree, college student pursuing a degree or military veteran preferred.

The company has been in business since 1913 and if you are looking for a career we can offer that. We currently have day and afternoon positions available in our Forge and Saw Departments. The right individual will be involved in all aspects of the forging or sawing operations. Areas of responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Works with the press crew and assists in making open die forgings and seamless rolled rings.
- Operates forklift and manipulator to move materials through the manufacturing process.
- Operate band saws and maintain the saws to keep them in proper working order.
- Maintain and inspect inventory being received and used.
- Must be able to calculate weights and lengths to cut material to desired weight on saws.
- Operate overhead cranes, forklifts and manipulators to move material through the manufacturing process.
- Practice good housekeeping to keep work areas clean and organized.
- Follows company policies and procedures.
- Is responsible for the knowing the quality policy and having a basic understanding of all work instructions appropriate to the position.
- Other job duties as assigned.
